Automotive data note

Your export is not a data product

A file becomes useful when someone can explain what it means, how it may be used, and which problem it helps solve.

An export can tell you what is in a system. It rarely tells an AI team what the records mean, which decisions they can support, or whether they can be used for the intended purpose.

Imagine a history of vehicle-status changes. A row marked sold could represent a signed agreement, a delivery, a later administrative update, or a status that was later reversed. The answers change what a model should learn and how someone should evaluate it.

A useful data product needs a defined task, documented source, clear field meanings, relevant context, and an explicit account of permitted uses. More volume does not correct a vague definition. It can repeat the same ambiguity many more times.

The commercial question is smaller and more concrete: what can a buyer do better with this source, under a permission that can actually be granted? Sometimes the answer is a prepared dataset, an evaluation, or a decision not to proceed.
